C-01
Low airflow
A clogged filter, a closed register or a collapsed return duct cuts the volume of air over the coil. Less heat in, colder tube walls, moisture freezes on the fins.
C-02
Dirty coil
A dust-loaded evaporator holds a blanket of insulation between the air and the refrigerant. The coil never reaches temp, so it ices even at normal charge.
C-03
Low refrigerant
Starved the coil cannot absorb its full load. Pressure drops, superheat runs high, and the coldest part of the coil can go sub-freezing.
C-04
Restricted expansion device
A plugged TXV or a clogged filter drier feeds the coil too little refrigerant. Flow starves, and the coil runs cold enough to ice at the inlet.
